Button On Gear Shift Lever Of 2007 Buick Lucerne

I just purchased a 2007 Bulick Lucerne. The gear shift lever is on the steering coloumn. There is a button that can be depressed at the end of the gear shift lever. I cannot find reference to this button in the owner's manual. What is this button for?
