Heard/felt A Couple Of Thumps Then Forward Gears Barely Moved Car. Rear Gear Fin

Transmission working fine until today. Them while pulling felt a couple of thumps and shortly thereafter forward gears hardly moved car with engine revving. Reverse works fine. Fluid level OK. any ideas?
