Without knowing what codes it is kicking theres really no way I can answer that. What I can tell you is that you need to take it in to a dealership for a proper diagnostic scan on an OBD-II scantool. The check engine light could be caused by a faulty speed sensor which would tie directly into the transmision. It could also be a misfire code or an EVAP code thats causing the transmision to react and throw false codes. Theres really just too many posibilities to narrow it down here. You did say you cant remove the key until the codes are cleared which tells me the transmision interlock is not fully engaging into park or the sensor for it is reading that its not. But this could be a symptom of the problem instead of the problem.

If you agree that the answer I provided is correct please remember to "accept" and/or mark it as "helpful" so I know I'm doing a good job. Thank you, I would really appreciate it.
