1970's Brother Sewing Machine Xl731

Hi i'm learning how to sew but i am getting very frustrated. I really need help on how to thread this machine. It had a plate on that said made in japan. on the front of the machine itvsays Pacesetter By brother xL731 and thats it. It does sit in a wood cabinet. I do not have an instruction manual. And thee is no thread guide on the machine.... please someone help?
