Keep Getting Error 1

I purchased this last winter and used it very little. I am in AZ in winter only and use it out here. The feed dogs don't work very good and now I can't get it to sew at all. Get error 1 and machine won't move.  Have checked everything.  I bourght this last Dec. 2011 here in Phoenix and leave it here. It says the feed controller isn't plugged in. IT IS. What else do I do. Brought all kinds of sewing to do this winter and now can't get anything done
