What do you mean by broken? Is it literally broken or did it crash? If your phone did crash and you recover the use of your phone in a Hard Reset, you're going to lose everything but a functioning phone.

This is a Hard Reset which you should NOT try: Remove the back cover and the battery, put the battery back in, the cover back on and turn on your phone. The phone might recover but there is NO WAY to get any of your old info, calendar or photo files.

What you can do is to call Motorola Customer Support Center to describe the problem and hear from them whether you can retrieve your contact list or will have to start from scratch. 1-800-331-6456 in the US and from Canada, 1-800-461-4575.
