Blackberry Charger Insert

Hi, I purchased a blackberry 8520 Smartphone for myself in December 2011. Yesterday when I was taking the charger out of the phone the insert which the charger is put into also came out. I have taken the phone to Carphone Warehouse and they have said that I have "physically damaged" the phone and that it was not covered under warranty. I can assure you I did not physically damage the phone. And would therefore appreciate it if you could help me with this problem. thank you in anticiation.
