Why Do I Lose The Signal To The Projector During My Laptop Start-up?

I just bought a BenQ MS510 projector. I am trying to use a small ACER laptop with it. I connect the laptop to the projector on Computer 1, then I turn on the projector and then I turn on the laptop. Initially the laptop's boot-up screen shows on the projector but as the laptop goes through 2 or 3 start-up screens the projector loses the signal. Is this a problem with my laptop? When I look at the Source panel on the projector I see that Computer 1 is selected. Hope you can help me.
