Horrible Noise
why does it start to make a horrible noise then turn itself off ?

Check your batteries. I had a player once that every time the batteries were too low it would make a horrible sound like dragging the needle across a record, then die. The issue was the batteries were bad, not just low, bad. Once I replaced the battery (it used a proprietary pack, not AA's) it worked fine.
Give that a shot and see what happens.
