Electrical Issue With 2005 Bmw 6 Series
After being towed, my car's entire electrical system flickers on and off while I'm driving. Cig light/charger does not work. Radio/Car Audio does not work. Constant warnings re: everything and, nothing is wrong. Transmission is now starting to miss & drag. Dealer replaced batter that was only 5 months old and, now says I need alternator replaced because it "overcharges" and, water got into the rear taillight area and satellite radio & other wires have gotten wet and, dealer says all electrical lines need to be replaced for a total of approx. $3700. Has anyone ever heard of an alternator that "overcharges"?

yeah, had the same problem with mine, i drive would start turning on and off wipers going crazy and loads of random faults. I found it would get worse after fueling due to the large electrical load taken from the i drive to calculate mileage etc. the fault can be found through diagnostics if you know what you're doing or when the car is acting up stick a multi meter across the battery and check the voltage, when the faults are coming on the multi meter should be reading a higher voltage it should be approx 12V when everything is normal but if the alternator is over charging you will get a higher output, it's called a spiking alternator. if its been happening a long time on the same battery, the battery may need to be replaced as well. i didn't have wire issues with mine. hope that helps.
