First Generation Ipod And Itunes

After downloading the newest version of iTunes and restoring my first generation iPod I am not able to sync any podcasts to the ipod. I get the message "syncing complete" but there is nothing moved to the ipod. Our iPod touch syncs just fine on the same computer. Any thoughts?
