There would most likely be a help desk in the airport nearest to you that can assist you better. There, request that you be placed on a new flight since your original one was cancelled. Most airports can accomodate for situations like yours.

Alternatively, since you can access the internet, depending on the airline you may be able to get an alternative flight through your airline's website.

The best thing to do for future occurences like this would be to call into the central reservations department of American Airlines and see if they can put you on a different flight.
