Display Problem, Screen Flickers
I am trying to work on an Acer 5810TZ-4657 running Vista that has a display issue. When powered on using the battery or the power cord, the screen has a grayish color and will flicker white intermittently. The BIOS screen is not even available. Using the VGA connection, I tried hooking it to another monitor that I know works and it gives a 'no signal' message.
I was able to remove the hard drive and retrieve the data with no problems so I don't think it's an OS issue. Because I am unable to view anything from the laptop, I can't run any updates for the machine.
Would it likely be the video/graphics on the mainboard, a video cable or the screen itself? I'm leaning towards the motherboard since I was unable to get a signal to the external monitor.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I would agree with you that it seems most likely to be the motherboard. When you tried hooking up the external monitor, that bypassed the screen, the inverter, and their cables, so you can rule them out.
Do you have a spare video card that you could try installing to see if you can get anything to display with that? Then you could be sure it's the motherboard.
