Acer 4739 Laptop Screen Is Blank.
External monitor works. could this be an inverter problem? What other solutions can you recommend?

Fn + F5 WILL TOGGLE DIDPLAY between screen and external.
or, Test fn + f6 buttons to see if the display has been turned off as on page 31 of your manual

It is a sign that the invertor has failed as you can boot to an external monitor, but it can just be a loosee fitting to the screen of the backloight cable. I would remove the screen surround, and check the invertor connections. then remove the screen to check the backlight cable has not been damaged (sometimes opening and shutting the lid over a period of time can cause the cable to fray inside its covering)
